Incident Overview

A fatal head-on collision occurred on Sunday, June 13, 2025, at approximately 2:40 am on Newcastle Road, near North Lambton, Newcastle, resulting in the death of a woman and the loss of an unborn child.

The driver of a Holden sedan was reportedly seen driving dangerously and failed to stop when signalled by police. Due to safety concerns, no pursuit was initiated, and the vehicle allegedly crossed onto the wrong side of the road before colliding head-on with a Hyundai sedan travelling eastbound.

A 55-year-old woman, a passenger in the Hyundai, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 28-year-old driver25 weeks pregnant, was rushed to John Hunter Hospital in serious condition and later lost her unborn child.

The driver of the Holden and a 17-year-old front passenger fled the scene on foot, leaving two teenage girls — aged 15 and 17 — in the back seat. Both were taken to hospital under police guard and remain in critical condition.
