A driver has died after their car left the Hume Highway, struck a tree, and caught fire in Bowning, NSW. The incident occurred on Friday evening, November 15, 2024.

Location and Time

The crash happened around 5:50 pm on the Hume Highway in Bowning, NSW, which is located about an hour south of Canberra.

Vehicles Involved

The crash involved a single vehicle, the type of which was not specified in the report.

Crash Description

The car was traveling on the Hume Highway when it veered off the road, struck a tree, and caught fire. A passing private water tanker stopped to try and extinguish the blaze, but the vehicle was completely destroyed.

Injuries/Fatalities

The driver of the car died at the scene. They have not yet been formally identified.

Emergency Response

A private water tanker driver stopped and attempted to extinguish the fire. Emergency services were called to the scene, but the driver could not be saved.

Investigation

NSW Police have established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances of the crash. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
