The Queensland Police Service Ethical Standards Command is investigating the death of a man following an e-scooter crash in Townsville City on January 18.

Around 3.30am on Thursday, January 18, a marked police vehicle was travelling on Denham Street near the intersection of Walker Street when a man on an e-scooter saw their vehicle and attempted to speed away.

The e-scooter collided with the gutter, and the rider fell to the ground sustaining life-threatening injuries.

Police immediately rendered medical assistance and emergency services attended.

The rider, a 35-year-old Townsville City man, was transported to Townsville University Hospital where he was pronounced deceased on January 19.

The Ethical Standards Command is investigating the incident on behalf of the State Coroner, and the investigation is subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
