A 68-year-old woman died following a head-on collision on the Augusta Highway at Crystal Brook. South Australia Police later charged the driver of the other vehicle with causing death by careless driving.

People and Vehicles Involved

Police said the crash involved a Mitsubishi station wagon and a Toyota four-wheel drive. The Mitsubishi was driven by a 68-year-old local woman. The Toyota was driven by a 51-year-old Victorian man and carried two passengers.

Injuries and Fatalities

SA Ambulance treated the Mitsubishi driver at the scene before taking her to hospital, where she died a short time later. Police said the Toyota driver and his two passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated in hospital.

Emergency Response

Emergency services attended the highway and Major Crash officers examined the scene. The Augusta Highway remained closed during the investigation and reopened at about 9.00pm.

Police Investigation

Police arrested the Toyota driver and charged him with causing death by careless driving. He was refused police bail to appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court. A charge is an allegation and is not a finding of guilt. The court outcome was not reported in the cited sources.
