Charmhaven Highway Tragedy: Teen Driver Charged After Brother’s Fatal Crash

Introduction
A devastating car accident on the Pacific Highway in Charmhaven, New South Wales, has resulted in the death of a 17-year-old boy and the charging of his 19-year-old sister, who was allegedly driving the vehicle.

Crash Overview
The fatal crash occurred around 1:30 am on Wednesday when the siblings’ station wagon veered off the Pacific Highway and collided with a tree. The young man was killed on impact.

Investigation and Charges
Police investigations revealed that the 19-year-old woman was allegedly driving the car on a suspended license. She has been charged with a range of offenses, including dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, failing to stop and assist after a vehicle impact causing death, and driving while suspended.  

Witness Accounts
Witnesses reported the 19-year-old driver was visibly distressed after the crash and left the scene. She was later found by police near the site and taken to Gosford Hospital with minor injuries.

Legal Proceedings
The woman was granted strict conditional bail during a bedside hearing at Gosford Hospital. She is scheduled to appear before Wyong Local Court on August 26 and has been issued with a subsequent suspension notice.

Road Closure and Reopening
The Pacific Highway was closed in both directions between Moala Parade and Jetty Avenue, Charmhaven, following the accident. Local diversions were put in place, and motorists were advised to avoid the area. The highway has since reopened.
