Incident Overview

An 18-year-old motorcyclist died after a collision with a Toyota SUV at Barrack Heights on Saturday, 4 July 2026. NSW Police said the rider came off the motorcycle after the two vehicles collided.

Location and Time

Emergency services were called at about 4.30pm to the intersection of Shellharbour Road and Woodlands Road, Barrack Heights, in the Shellharbour area of New South Wales.

People and Vehicles Involved

Police identified the vehicles as a Toyota SUV and a motorcycle. They said the motorcyclist was an 18-year-old man. The Toyota was being driven by a 16-year-old learner driver, who was accompanied by a supervising passenger. Police did not publicly identify any of the people involved in the release, which also did not give the rider’s name.

Injuries and Fatalities

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the motorcyclist at the scene before he was taken to Wollongong Hospital in a critical condition. Police later said he died in hospital. The learner driver and supervisor were uninjured, according to the police release.

Emergency Response

Lake Illawarra Police District officers and ambulance paramedics attended after the reported two-vehicle crash. The learner driver and supervisor were taken to Shellharbour Hospital for mandatory testing.

Police Investigation

Police established a crime scene and said an investigation into the circumstances of the crash was underway. The available reports do not determine the cause of the collision or civil responsibility.
