Incident Overview
Three people died and several others were injured in a two-vehicle collision on the Kings Highway at Monga in southern New South Wales. Police allege a sedan crossed the centre line and struck an oncoming hatchback, with the three occupants of the hatchback dying at the scene.

    • Nora Berguno, 38, occupant of the hatchback, died at the scene
    • Lilli Berguno, 19, occupant of the hatchback, died at the scene
    • Jeremy, 19, occupant of the hatchback, died at the scene
  • Injuries:
    • Phoebe, 15, occupant of the hatchback, airlifted to Canberra Hospital with critical injuries and remains in hospital
    • Man, 39, occupant of the sedan, sustained non-life-threatening injuries
    • Boy, 7, occupant of the sedan, sustained non-life-threatening injuries
    • Boy, 3, occupant of the sedan, sustained non-life-threatening injuries

Emergency Response

  • Police and emergency services attended the scene following the two-vehicle crash on the Kings Highway
  • Phoebe, 15, was airlifted to Canberra Hospital; other injured occupants were treated for non-life-threatening injuries
  • The Kings Highway at Monga was closed for about 12 hours following the crash, with traffic affected during the closure

Police Investigation
Police say early inquiries suggest the collision occurred after a sedan crossed onto the incorrect side of the road and struck the oncoming hatchback, at a possible speed of about 100km/h. Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.

Community Impact
The deaths have prompted grief across family, friends and the University of Canberra High School community, where two of the teenagers attended. The crash has also renewed calls for safety upgrades on the Kings Highway, with community members raising concerns about dangerous sections of the route.
