Incident Overview
An 87-year-old woman has died following a serious head-on crash in Blakehurst, Sydney’s south. The incident occurred around 2:30 pm on Saturday, July 5, 2025, when a sedan and SUV collided on the Princes Highway, just north of Tom Ugly’s Bridge. The elderly woman, who was the sole occupant of the sedan, was critically injured and transported to hospital, where she later died on Wednesday, July 9.

  • SUV – driven by a 44-year-old man, carrying a 13-year-old boy

Injuries/Fatalities

  • Fatality:
    • The 87-year-old female driver of the sedan was critically injured and later died in hospital.
  • Other Injuries:
    • The 44-year-old SUV driver and his 13-year-old male passenger were treated at the scene and transported to St George Hospital in stable condition.

Emergency Response
NSW Police, paramedics, and Fire and Rescue NSW attended the crash scene. The elderly woman was trapped in the sedan and had to be extricated using the jaws of life. She was transported in critical condition but passed away several days later. A crime scene was established and the road partially closed during the response.

Investigation
NSW Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash. Key areas of inquiry include:

  • The movements of both vehicles leading up to the head-on collision
  • Whether lane departure, distraction, or speed were contributing factors
  • Collection and review of dashcam footage from nearby motorists

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Community Impact
The fatal crash has added to Sydney’s growing road toll and has sparked concern among residents about safety near the Tom Ugly’s Bridge corridor, which is known for congestion and complex traffic flows. Tributes are expected for the elderly woman, whose identity has not yet been publicly released.
