Incident Overview
A man has been charged following a two-vehicle crash at Burleigh Waters on Saturday afternoon, October 18, 2025, after allegedly driving dangerously through the Varsity Lakes area.

Around 5:00 pm, police were called to the intersection of Bermuda Street and Lake Orr Drive following reports of a collision between a grey Volkswagen Golf and a white Toyota Hilux. Police allege the Volkswagen, which was bearing stolen number plates, was being driven erratically before colliding with the Hilux.

The driver of the Volkswagen fled the scene before police arrived. Officers located and arrested the man a short time later on Carnamah Lane.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

A 35-year-old man from Rochedale South has been charged with multiple offences, including:

  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • Driving while disqualified by court order (repeat offender)
  • Unregistered vehicle
  • Driving an uninsured vehicle
  • Failing to comply with duties of a driver involved in a crash
  • Receiving tainted property
  • Wilful damage of police property
  • Contravening a direction or requirement of a police officer

He is scheduled to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday, 20 October 2025.

The Gold Coast Forensic Crash Unit and local police are investigating:

  • The sequence of events leading to the crash on Bermuda Street.
  • The vehicle’s movements through the Varsity Lakes and Burleigh Waters areas prior to the collision.
  • The origin of the stolen registration plates and possible links to other offences.
