Incident Overview

An 11-year-old girl died after a car left the Bruxner Highway near Tenterfield, struck a tree and entered a dam on 10 September 2025.

Location and Time

The incident occurred near Bryans Gap Road at about 3.30pm.

People Involved

Emergency services removed the child and the 50-year-old woman driving the car from the water.

Death and Injury

Paramedics treated the girl, but she died at the scene. The driver was taken to Tenterfield Hospital in a stable condition.

Investigation

Crash Investigation Unit officers examined the scene and the circumstances leading to the car entering the dam.

Charges

In June 2026, police issued the woman a court attendance notice for five offences, including dangerous driving causing death, negligent driving causing death and driving under the influence of drugs.

Legal Status

The charges are allegations to be determined by a court. The accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
