Details of the Incident
The accident occurred in November 2021 at the company’s factory in Melbourne. While performing maintenance on a dumpling machine, an employee’s finger was caught and pulled into a moving chain, leading to partial amputation of his index finger.
Operational Context
WorkSafe’s investigation into the incident revealed entanglement risks in other parts of the dumpling machine as well. The investigation concluded that the company had failed to maintain a safe piece of machinery and had not provided adequate safety instructions to its workers.
Court’s Decision and Impact on Victims
My Crazy Auntie’s Food faced six charges in Dandenong Magistrates Court, including four related to failing to maintain safe machinery. The company was found guilty of all charges and fined $45,000, with additional costs of $5,372.
