What happened

Incident Overview

A 74-year-old worker died at a farm in Waggarandall, near Shepparton, Victoria, on Sunday 25 October 2026. WorkSafe Victoria said he became trapped beneath a loading ramp. The regulator’s initial description of how the ramp fell is provisional, and it is investigating the death.

Workplace, Location and Time

WorkSafe placed the incident at a Waggarandall farm at about 10.30am. It believes the worker was loading a skid steer loader onto a flatbed trailer when the ramp fell onto him. The public notice does not name the farm or identify the man’s employer or precise work role.

Fatality and Immediate Outcome

The worker died following the ramp incident. WorkSafe did not publish a more detailed account of his injuries or report that anyone else was hurt. We have left those details out rather than infer them from the circumstances.

WorkSafe Investigation

WorkSafe said it is investigating. Its statement does not establish why the ramp fell, whether a mechanical fault was involved or whether any person or business breached a safety duty. No finding about responsibility should be drawn from this early account. The regulator counted the death as Victoria’s 42nd confirmed workplace fatality in 2026 at the time of its release.

Why We Report Workplace Accidents

We record the confirmed circumstances of workplace deaths to keep attention on the risks associated with moving and loading heavy equipment. Later official findings may clarify how this event occurred. For now, the loading task, fatal outcome and active investigation are known; the cause and legal responsibility are not.
