What happened

Incident Overview

Two workers suffered significant burns in a fire at a residential construction site in Armadale, Victoria, in November 2025. WorkSafe Victoria announced charges against Super Coat Waterproofing Pty Ltd on 19 October 2026. Its public release did not give the exact day of the fire.

Workplace, Location and Time

WorkSafe said a gas torch was being used to dry brickwork before the application of a highly flammable adhesive coating when the fire broke out. The incident occurred at a residential building site in Armadale. The regulator did not state a time of day.

Injuries and Immediate Outcome

Both workers suffered significant burns. WorkSafe’s release did not describe their medical treatment or subsequent recovery.

Regulator Action

Super Coat Waterproofing faces two charges under Victoria’s Occupational Health and Safety Act. WorkSafe alleges the company failed to inform workers that the adhesive was a class 3 dangerous good posing a severe fire hazard, instruct them not to carry out the task near an open flame, or train them in the steps needed to complete the task safely. It also alleges the company failed to ensure the area was well ventilated and provide a system of work that ruled out performing the task near an open flame. Those allegations have not been determined by a court. The regulator said the matter was listed for a filing hearing at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 21 October 2026.
