On Saturday, 3 August 2024, a 48-year-old worker died following an incident at the Byerwen coal mine near Dysart in north Queensland. Paramedics were called to the site at approximately 7:30 am, but the worker’s injuries proved fatal.
Resources Safety & Health Queensland (RSHQ) was notified and an investigator attended the scene to determine the circumstances of the accident. The mine operator, QCOAL, has suspended operations in the affected area pending the outcome of the investigation.
Resources Safety & Health Queensland is appealing for any workers, contractors or witnesses who were present at the Byerwen coal mine on Saturday, 3 August 2024 to come forward with information. Reports can be made confidentially to RSHQ on 1300 362 128 or to Queensland Police.
