Introduction
Viking Ullur grounding on the Danube near Vidin, Bulgaria, led to the evacuation of all 186 passengers on July 28, 2026.
What Happened
The river cruise vessel went aground near river kilometre 817, opposite Gomotartsi and about 25 kilometres upstream from Vidin, during a Bucharest-to-Budapest voyage. The incident occurred in low-water conditions. The vessel was carrying 186 passengers and 52 crew members.
Response and Investigation
Bulgarian Border Police evacuated all passengers ashore. A local agent arranged an alternative vessel, CroisiEurope Vivaldi, but it could not approach the grounded ship. The status of the voyage and crew was being assessed. No passenger or crew injuries or deaths were reported.
