Scarlet Lady Breaks Moorings and Contacts Boats in Rhodes – 30 September 2026
What happened
Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady broke away from its berth at Rhodes, Greece, on the evening of 30 September 2026 after several mooring lines reportedly parted in strong waves. The ship’s gangway fell into the water as the vessel moved away from the pier.
The incident was reported shortly after 8:15 p.m. local time. Scarlet Lady then moved across the harbour and made contact with a catamaran and two other boats.
Port response
The Rhodes Central Port Authority responded and available tugboats were placed on standby. Local reporting said the ship’s master manoeuvred Scarlet Lady under its own power and returned the vessel to its berth.
A later report identified the tourist vessel King of Rhodes as one of the boats involved in the contact. The available information did not establish the extent of any damage to that vessel, the catamaran or the other boat.
Voyage context
Scarlet Lady was operating a seven-night Greek Isles and Mykonos Overnight Cruise from Piraeus. The itinerary included Bodrum in Turkey and Rhodes, Mykonos and Santorini in Greece.
The reported contact occurred while the ship was berthed at Rhodes. It was not reported as a collision during navigation, and the accounts attribute the initial movement to the reported failure of mooring lines in strong waves.
Reported outcome
No injuries or marine pollution were reported. The available reports did not provide a confirmed assessment of damage, a formal cause of the mooring-line failure, or any lasting effect on Scarlet Lady’s itinerary.
This entry records the reported berth incident and the immediate port response. It does not make a finding about seamanship, maintenance, responsibility or the cause of the line failure.
