Introduction
Disney Cruise Line (DCL) has announced the postponement of the maiden voyage of its newest ship, Disney Adventure, citing shipyard delays. Originally scheduled to sail on December 15, 2025, the debut has been rescheduled to March 10, 2026, allowing additional time to complete outfitting and ensure delivery meets Disney’s operational standards.

Details of the Delay

Shipbuilding Timeline:

  • The vessel, extensively reimagined from a previously incomplete hull, is under final construction and outfitting at Meyer Werft’s Papenburg shipyard and Wismar facilities in Germany.
  • Trials and finishing work are ongoing, with Disney citing “unforeseen delays” in the build process.
  • The three-month postponement ensures full readiness of shipboard systems and interiors.

Affected Sailings:

  • The maiden voyage of December 15, 2025, is now scheduled for March 10, 2026.
  • All sailings through March 12, 2026, have been cancelled.
  • Guests booked on cancelled voyages will receive refunds and a 50% future cruise credit.

Guest Compensation:

  • Passengers moved automatically to the rescheduled March 10 maiden voyage will receive a 50% fare reduction.
  • Those unable to sail may request a full refund while retaining the 50% discount for a future cruise.
  • For other cancelled voyages (December 2025–March 2026), guests will receive automatic refunds plus a 50% future cruise credit.
  • Future cruise discounts must be booked by March 31, 2026, for departures through March 31, 2027.

Travel Agent and Commission Policies:

  • Travel agents were informed that commissions for cancelled sailings will remain valid.
  • Commissions on new bookings using the 50% discount will be based on the reduced fare, in line with DCL policy.
  • Discounted fares will appear in guest accounts by October 8, 2025, with updated confirmations issued within 72 hours where needed.

Industry Context:

  • Disney Adventure, acquired in 2022, is part of Disney’s strategy to expand its fleet with new, larger vessels tailored for Asian and global markets.
  • This delay highlights the ongoing complexities of shipbuilding projects amid supply chain issues and technical integration challenges across European yards.
  • Despite the setback, Disney emphasized its commitment to delivering a product that aligns with its reputation for quality and guest satisfaction.
