Introduction
On August 29, 2024, Carnival Cruise Line (CCL) was forced to cancel an upcoming voyage of the Carnival Vista due to critical propulsion issues that limited the ship’s maximum cruising speed, necessitating urgent repairs.
Details of the Incident
The propulsion problems led to the cancellation of the 8-day Southern Caribbean Cruise, originally scheduled to depart on September 7, 2024. This itinerary included stops at Oranjestad, Aruba; Willemstad, Curacao; and Cockburn Town on Grand Turk Island.
Compensation and Customer Service Response
Carnival Cruise Line has offered comprehensive compensation to affected passengers, including a 100% refund of the cruise fare, full refunds for any pre-purchased onboard services and shore excursions, and a 100% future cruise credit valid until August 31, 2025. Additionally, travelers who independently booked non-refundable flights have been offered reimbursement for flight change fees up to $200 per person to help mitigate the inconvenience caused by the cancellation.
