What happened
On Thursday, 29 January 2026, a Saab 340B+ twin-engine transport aircraft registered VH-VEZ and operated by Link Airways (trading as Corporate Air) experienced a serious incident at Canberra Airport, Australian Capital Territory. The aircraft was a scheduled passenger service bound for Newcastle-Williamtown Airport in New South Wales.
At approximately 16:09 local time, during the initial climb phase shortly after takeoff from Canberra Airport, the left main landing gear wheel detached from the aircraft. The flight crew became aware of the situation and made the decision to return the aircraft to Canberra Airport for an emergency landing.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) was notified and is investigating the serious incident.
