Circumstances:

On 5 September 2026, Qantas flight QF122 departed Queenstown for Sydney in Boeing 737-800 VH-VZQ. Shortly after take-off, the flight experienced what Qantas described as a suspected engine issue and diverted to Christchurch, where it landed safely. Qantas said both engines continued to operate and that no engine shutdown or failure occurred. The New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority later said the cause had not been confirmed. The Transport Accident Investigation Commission decided not to open an inquiry, and the ATSB did not investigate.
