What happened
On Tuesday, 3 March 2026, a Cessna 402C twin-engine aircraft registered VH-HMG and operated by Paul Lyons Aviation Pty Ltd was involved in a runway incursion and near collision with a safety vehicle at Jandakot Airport, Western Australia. The aircraft was conducting an air transport operation with six passengers on board, bound for Bunbury Airport.
At approximately 07:12 am local time, during the take-off roll, the pilot observed a safety vehicle enter the runway directly in front of the aircraft. The Cessna 402C was already above the maximum speed for a rejected take-off and could not be safely stopped. The pilot continued the take-off, and the aircraft passed over the vehicle in close proximity before becoming airborne.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is investigating the occurrence as a serious incident involving a runway incursion and near collision.
