What happened

Incident Overview

On Thursday, September 22, 2022, an 11-year-old boy died in hospital following a serious single-vehicle crash at Wakerley, Queensland. The incident occurred when a red 2005 Holden Commodore left the roadway and struck traffic lights on Manly Road near Hargreaves Road at approximately 9:40am.

Bystanders and an off-duty police officer provided immediate first aid at the scene. The boy was transported to Queensland Children’s Hospital in critical condition but sadly passed away as a result of his injuries.

The crash occurred on Manly Road near the intersection of Hargreaves Road at Wakerley, at approximately 9:40am on Thursday, September 22, 2022.

Emergency Response

Emergency services attended the scene immediately following the crash. Bystanders and an off-duty police officer provided first aid to the boy before paramedics arrived. The child was transported to Queensland Children’s Hospital in critical condition, while two adult males were transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Investigation

Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash. Investigators are appealing for witnesses and motorists with dashcam footage of Manly Road near Hargreaves Road at the time of the incident, or in the moments leading up to it, to come forward with information.
