What happened

Incident Overview

On Saturday, November 23, 2024, a fatal traffic collision occurred at the intersection of Hummock Road and Elliot Heads Road in Windermere, Bundaberg, Queensland. A white Toyota Hiace van and a silver Mazda BT-50 collided at approximately 7:25pm, resulting in the death of one passenger and injuries to six other people.

Queensland Police attended the scene and declared the incident a serious crash. The driver of the van, a 33-year-old Bundaberg East man, has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and was scheduled to appear before Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday, November 25, 2024.

Emergency Response

Queensland Police and emergency services attended the scene at the intersection. Seven people were transported to Bundaberg Base Hospital; one person was pronounced deceased at the scene. The intersection was secured and managed by attending officers while initial investigations commenced.

Investigation

Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is leading the investigation into the collision. The 33-year-old driver of the van has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death. Investigators are appealing to any witnesses or persons with relevant dashcam footage of the incident to come forward with information.
