What happened

Incident Overview

On Monday, October 10, 2022, a serious two-vehicle collision occurred on Mount Cotton Road at Sheldon, Queensland, involving a stolen Mitsubishi Challenger and a Kia Cerato. A 72-year-old man was transported in critical condition to Princess Alexandra Hospital, and a 70-year-old woman passenger was transported in serious condition to the same facility.

Queensland Police attended the scene shortly before 10am. A 44-year-old man, the alleged driver of the stolen vehicle, was taken into custody at the scene and received treatment for minor injuries at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Emergency Response

Queensland Police and Queensland Ambulance Service attended the scene. Two patients from the Kia Cerato were transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital by ambulance. The alleged driver of the stolen Mitsubishi was also transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Investigation

Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the collision. The 44-year-old man, the alleged driver of the stolen Mitsubishi Challenger, was taken into custody at the scene and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Police are appealing for anyone with information, CCTV footage, or relevant dashcam footage of the incident or the vehicles in the moments prior to the crash to come forward.
