What happened

Incident Overview

On Monday, October 17, 2022, a crane truck rolled over on the northbound Gateway Motorway near the Bracken Ridge exit, leaving the driver seriously injured and trapping him in the wreckage.

Emergency services attended the scene at approximately 8:50am local time. The driver, a 38-year-old man from Elimbah, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and required rescue by emergency personnel before being transported to hospital.

Community Impact

Both northbound lanes of the Gateway Motorway were closed following the incident to allow emergency services to attend and conduct initial investigations. The motorway was reopened shortly after 1:15pm, resulting in several hours of traffic disruption on the major arterial route.

Emergency Response

Emergency services attended the scene promptly and worked to free the driver from the wreckage. The 38-year-old man was extracted from the vehicle and transported by ambulance to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital with serious injuries.

Investigation

Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the rollover. Initial investigations indicate the crane truck lost control while travelling northbound before overturning near the Bracken Ridge exit. Police are appealing for motorists with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward to assist the investigation.
