What happened

Incident Overview

On Monday, September 5, 2022, a single-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Barney Street and Farmer Street in Edmonton, Queensland, involving a stolen vehicle and three teenage occupants. A 14-year-old boy fled the scene on foot, while a 13-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy remained in the vehicle and were transported to hospital with injuries.

Queensland Police attended the scene and located the 14-year-old boy a short distance away. The vehicle, a stolen car taken from Kuranda earlier that afternoon, had lost control and struck a tree at the intersection.

Emergency Response

Queensland Police and Queensland Ambulance Service attended the scene. All three occupants were transported to Cairns Base Hospital for treatment. The 14-year-old boy was located by police a short distance from the crash site and transported to hospital where he received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation

Queensland Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash. Investigations have established that the vehicle was stolen from Kuranda shortly before 4:00pm on September 5, 2022. Police will allege that the three teens in the stolen vehicle lost control and crashed into a tree at the intersection. The investigation is ongoing.
