What happened

Incident Overview

On Monday, September 5, 2022, a fatal traffic collision occurred at a Stanthorpe intersection involving a car and a 4WD travelling in opposite directions on the New England Highway. A 60-year-old Stanthorpe man, the driver of the car, was pronounced deceased at the scene despite emergency crews’ efforts to revive him.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:00pm local time when the car was turning north onto the New England Highway and collided with a 4WD travelling southbound. Three other people sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at the scene.

Emergency Response

Emergency crews attended the scene and provided immediate response. Despite their efforts to revive the driver of the car, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The three injured persons received treatment for their non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation

Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the collision. The investigation is examining the factors that led to the crash at the intersection.
