Incident Overview

A 32-year-old Southside man died and two people were airlifted to hospital after a two-vehicle crash on Tin Can Bay Road at Kia Ora on Saturday, 22 August 2026. Queensland Police said a Hyundai Getz collided with a Toyota Landcruiser towing a caravan.

Location and Time

  • Date and time: About 10.45 am on Saturday, 22 August 2026.
  • Location: Tin Can Bay Road between Priddy Road and Gravel Forestry Road, Kia Ora, Queensland.

Vehicles Involved

  • Silver Hyundai Getz — travelling east.
  • White Toyota Landcruiser towing a caravan — travelling in the opposite direction.

Fatality and Injuries

  • The Hyundai driver, a 32-year-old Southside man and the vehicle’s sole occupant, died at the scene.
  • The Toyota driver, an 81-year-old man, and an 82-year-old woman who was the sole passenger were airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police Investigation and Appeal

Tin Can Bay Road was closed for several hours after the crash and later reopened. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the collision.
