Fatal traffic crash, Currumbin Waters

What happened

Incident Overview

On Friday, December 9, 2023, a fatal two-vehicle collision occurred on the Pacific Motorway at Currumbin Waters, Queensland, claiming the life of one driver. A Toyota HiLux travelling northbound lost control, rolled, and collided with a Kia Carnival, resulting in critical injuries to the HiLux driver and non-life-threatening injuries to three other occupants of the same vehicle.

Queensland Police attended the scene shortly after 7:00pm local time. The driver of the HiLux, a 20-year-old man from Nerang, sustained critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The collision occurred on the northbound carriageway of the Pacific Motorway at Currumbin Waters, at approximately 7:00pm on Friday, December 9, 2023.

Emergency Response

Queensland Police and emergency services attended the scene at Currumbin Waters shortly after 7:00pm. Three occupants of the Toyota HiLux with non-life-threatening injuries were transported to Gold Coast University Hospital in stable conditions. The driver of the Kia Carnival and its two passengers did not require hospital treatment.

Investigation

Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is leading the investigation into the circumstances of the collision. Police are appealing for any motorists who witnessed the incident or who have dashcam footage of the Pacific Motorway at Currumbin Waters around the time of the crash to come forward with information.
