Incident Overview

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating following a fatal three-vehicle traffic crash at Bauple, south of Maryborough, this afternoon, July 4.

Initial investigations indicate at approximately 12.20pm, a utility towing a caravan was travelling north along the Bruce Highway when a tyre dislodged and struck a truck, travelling in the opposite direction.

  • The driver of the third vehicle, a 59-year-old Gympie man, was pronounced deceased at the scene
  • The truck driver, a 58-year-old Sunshine Coast man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries
  • The other driver, a 44-year-old Cairns woman, was not physically injured, and is assisting police with investigations
  • Fatalities:
    • The driver of the third vehicle, a 59-year-old Gympie man, was pronounced deceased at the scene
  • Injuries:
    • The truck driver, a 58-year-old Sunshine Coast man, sustained non-life-threatening injuries
