What happened

Incident Overview

A 23-year-old man died following a two-vehicle collision on Hansen Road in Walkamin, in the Atherton Tablelands, on Friday, October 7, 2022. The crash involved a white Subaru Liberty sedan travelling east and a white Holden Colorado utility travelling west, and resulted in one fatality and two minor injuries.

Queensland Police attended the scene at approximately 5:40am local time. The collision closed Hansen Road for several hours while emergency services managed the scene and conducted initial investigations.

Community Impact

Hansen Road was closed following the collision to allow emergency services to manage the scene and conduct initial investigations. The road was reopened at 12:30pm.

Emergency Response

Queensland Police and Queensland Ambulance Service attended the scene. Two occupants of the Holden Colorado were transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the Subaru was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigation

Queensland Police are leading the investigation into the collision. Investigators are appealing for any witnesses in the area, particularly those with dashcam footage captured along Hansen Road and surrounding areas between 5:15am and 5:45am on the morning of the crash, to come forward with information.
