What happened

Incident Overview

On Wednesday, September 28, 2022, a fatal two-vehicle collision occurred on Kandanga Imbil Road near Imbil, Queensland, claiming the life of a 56-year-old driver. A Toyota Landcruiser travelling northbound collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla travelling in the opposite direction at approximately 4:00pm local time.

Emergency services attended the scene immediately. One passenger was airlifted to hospital in critical condition, while the driver of the Landcruiser was transported by road ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit attended and commenced a full investigation.

Location and Time

The collision occurred on Kandanga Imbil Road, approximately 200 metres north of the Melawondi Road turnoff, at around 4:00pm on Wednesday afternoon.

• Driver: 41-year-old female from Laidley Heights (transported to hospital)
• Passenger: 17-year-old male (airlifted to hospital)

• 17-year-old male passenger of the Corolla (airlifted to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, critical but stable condition)
• 41-year-old female driver of the Landcruiser (transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, non-life threatening injuries)

Emergency Response

Queensland Ambulance Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services attended the scene. One patient was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital by helicopter, while a second patient was transported by road ambulance to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

Investigation

Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit is leading the investigation into the circumstances of the collision. Police are appealing for any motorists who witnessed the crash or who have dashcam footage of the incident to come forward with information.
