An e-scooter rider has died following a crash in Fortitude Valley this morning.

Initial information indicates around 3.35am the rider was travelling south along Barry Parade when they came off the device nearby the intersection of Alfred and Gipps Streets.

Companions of the rider provided immediate first aid ahead of the emergency response, however the rider sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit will investigate the circumstances of the incident and appeal for witnesses, including passing motorists and businesses with relevant dashcam and CCTV to come forward.
