A medical emergency aboard the Utopia of the Seas prompted a swift Coast Guard response on August 12, 2024, as the ship was just beginning a short Bahamas cruise from Port Canaveral.

Details of the Incident
Shortly after departure, a 52-year-old male passenger experienced severe chest pains, leading to an immediate decision by the captain to turn the ship around. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified, and a helicopter evacuation was quickly arranged.

Rescue Operation
The passenger was airlifted by a Coast Guard helicopter approximately 23 miles off the coast of Port Canaveral. He was then transported to a local hospital in stable condition. This prompt response underscores the critical importance of quick medical intervention in such emergencies.
