Introduction
A distressing overboard incident occurred aboard the Carnival Dream on August 9, 2024, when a female crew member went missing at sea while the ship was returning to Texas from Mexico.
Details of the Incident
The crew member was reported missing around 2:30 AM local time, approximately 95 miles northeast of Río Lagartos, Yucatan. The ship, having departed from Cozumel on August 8 at 4 PM, initiated an onboard search without success. Maritime authorities in both Mexico and the United States were promptly notified to aid in the search.
Search and Rescue Operations
Led by Frigate Captain Jose Antonio Solano Claustro of Yucatan’s Harbormaster Office, the search and rescue operation involved both Mexican and US Coast Guards. Despite the extensive efforts and alerts to the maritime community, the crew member’s body was not found.
