Introduction
An outbreak of gastrointestinal illness consistent with norovirus affected passengers and crew aboard Star Princess during a Caribbean voyage that concluded at Port Everglades, Florida, on March 14, 2026.
What Happened
According to information released by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 153 individuals reported symptoms during the voyage. This included 104 of the 4,307 passengers and 49 members of the crew. The reported symptoms primarily included vomiting and diarrhoea.
Star Princess was operating a seven-day Caribbean itinerary that departed on March 7, 2026. The voyage concluded at Port Everglades on March 14.
Response and Investigation
Princess Cruises said that a limited number of guests experienced mild gastrointestinal illness during the sailing. Enhanced sanitation procedures were implemented across the vessel, including thorough disinfection of public areas and additional hygiene measures.
Individuals experiencing symptoms were separated from other guests and crew members so they could rest privately. These precautions were intended to reduce the potential for further spread of illness aboard the ship.
Outcome
