Passenger Overboard Fatality on Pacific Adventure off Sydney Coast: Incident on 6 May 2024

On 6 May 2024, a male passenger was reported missing from the cruise vessel Pacific Adventure (Carnival Cruise Line) while the ship was approximately 10 nautical miles off Sydney Heads, NSW. Despite extensive search and rescue operations involving NSW Police Marine Command and the Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter Service, the passenger's body was recovered at approximately 10:30 AM NSW time. No other passengers or crew were reported injured.

The incident occurred towards the end of a 3-day "Tribute To The King" music-themed roundtrip cruise from Sydney. The vessel's scheduled docking at White Bay Terminal was delayed, and subsequent voyage departures were affected.

The passenger was reported presumed overboard at approximately 4:00 AM NSW time on 6 May 2024. NSW Police Marine Command and the Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter Service immediately launched a coordinated search and rescue operation. Despite challenging sea conditions with swells reaching 4–5 metres, search teams deployed infrared technology across a 60 square nautical mile search area. The deceased was located and recovered at approximately 10:30 AM NSW time.

NSW Police Marine Command and the Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter Service responded immediately upon notification of the missing passenger. The coordinated response resulted in the recovery of the deceased at 10:30 AM NSW time.

The vessel's scheduled docking at White Bay Terminal was delayed as a result of the incident. Subsequent voyage departures were affected by the operational disruption. The incident remains under investigation by relevant NSW authorities.
