Introduction
A grave incident occurred on May 6, 2024, involving the recovery of a deceased male passenger from the waters near Sydney. The passenger was reported missing earlier that day, leading to extensive search and rescue efforts.
Details of the Incident
The man was reported presumed overboard around 4 AM NSW time, while Pacific Adventure was approximately 10 nautical miles off Sydney Heads. Following the report, NSW Police Marine Command, along with Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter Service, launched a significant operation. Despite challenging conditions with swells reaching 4-5 meters, search teams utilized infrared technology across a 60 NM² area in hopes of locating the man. His body was eventually retrieved at about 10:30 AM NSW time.
Operational Context
This tragic event occurred towards the conclusion of a 3-day “Tribute To The King” music-themed cruise, which featured no port calls and was a roundtrip from Sydney. The incident caused delays to Pacific Adventure’s scheduled docking at White Bay Terminal and affected the subsequent voyage’s departure timetable.
