On the afternoon of 25 June 2023, while the ship was at sea (en route from Fliroda to Curaca) and navigating south-east of Dominicana (approximately 30 miles/50 kilometres from Punta Cana), a 42-year-old female passenger fell overboard from the balcony of her cabin on deck 10.
The ship promptly contacted local authorities and initiated a search and rescue operation. The rescue efforts were thankfully successful. The woman was discovered and recovered alive and returned to the ship in excellent health. The itinerary remained unchanged, and the voyage continued as scheduled.
The ship contacted USCG Sector San Juan (Puerto Rico) at 5:45 pm Dominican time (21:45 UTC) to report the incident, but no medevac was requested. The woman remained in the sanatorium and was hospitalised the following day (June 26) in Willemstad (Curacao).
The incident occurred during the 8-day “Southern Caribbean with Perfect Day Cruise” (itinerary June 23 – July 1, roundtrip from Port Canaveral/Orlando, Florida, USA) with ports of call in the Netherlands Antilles (Willemstad Curacao/Jun 26 and Oranjestad Aruba/Jun 27) and the Bahamas (CocoCay/Jun 30).
