Introduction

Pacific World medevac operations were requested on March 23, 2026, after two passengers developed serious breathing difficulties in Vietnamese waters during a voyage between Singapore and Taiwan.

What Happened

Pacific World was sailing between Singapore and Taiwan when an 84-year-old Japanese man became critically ill. The ship’s infirmary team diagnosed severe pneumonia that had progressed to respiratory failure, requiring immediate medical intervention and mechanical ventilation.

A second passenger, a 79-year-old Japanese woman, subsequently developed significant breathing difficulties. With two passengers requiring advanced medical care, the ship requested assistance from coastal rescue authorities.

Response and Investigation

The Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre coordinated the response. It dispatched the rescue vessel SAR 272 with medical personnel from Ho Chi Minh City.

The rescue vessel intercepted Pacific World in Vietnamese waters. Medical personnel boarded the cruise ship, administered emergency treatment and transferred both patients to the rescue vessel for transport ashore.

The available report records the evacuation of both passengers for further medical care. It does not provide a later update on their conditions.
