Introduction
A Norwegian Viva crew member was reported overboard near Costa Maya, Mexico, during a Western Caribbean voyage on April 9, 2026.
What Happened
The 38-year-old crew member, identified in reports as Vinshar, was reported missing after the ship departed Costa Maya. Norwegian Viva initiated a man-overboard response, reversed course and remained in the area for approximately two hours while notifying Mexican authorities and coordinating search efforts.
Response and Investigation
Additional searches involving local authorities and nearby vessels failed to locate the crew member. The search was suspended on April 11, while the circumstances remained under investigation. Norwegian Cruise Line said the crew member’s family had been informed and that established response procedures had been followed. The ship was released to continue its itinerary. No confirmed death was reported.
