Holland America Line’s ms Volendam has experienced a norovirus outbreak, with 60 reported cases of illness among passengers and crew. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed that 53 passengers and 7 crew members experienced symptoms, primarily diarrhea and vomiting.

The outbreak occurred on a voyage that departed from PortMiami, Florida, on January 4th, 2025, with planned calls in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Barbados. Holland America Line stated that most cases were mild and resolved quickly.

In response, the cruise line implemented enhanced sanitation measures, including continuous disinfection and isolation of affected individuals, to prevent further spread of the virus.

This is the fourth norovirus outbreak on HAL ships since early December 2024, following similar incidents on the Eurodam, Rotterdam, and Zuiderdam.
