Introduction
Princess Cruises’ Coral Princess is dealing with an outbreak of norovirus, with 55 passengers and 15 crew members reporting symptoms of the gastrointestinal illness. The outbreak occurred during a 31-day voyage from Singapore to Los Angeles.

Details of the Incident
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that the 70 affected individuals represent a small fraction of the 1,822 passengers onboard. Common norovirus symptoms include vomiting and diarrhea. Princess Cruises is implementing enhanced cleaning and disinfection protocols in accordance with its outbreak prevention and response plan.

Operational Context
The CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program is monitoring the situation remotely, while Princess Cruises continues to manage the outbreak onboard. Norovirus outbreaks are not uncommon on cruise ships, and cruise lines have procedures in place to mitigate the spread of the illness.
