MV Gemini detention occurred in June 2026 when the cruise ship was placed under court-ordered detention off Karystos, on the Greek island of Euboea, following claims linked to unpaid debts.
MV Gemini, operated by Miray Cruises, had been scheduled to begin its Eastern Mediterranean program in late May. The detention halted planned voyages between Greece and Türkiye, as well as longer itineraries into the Black Sea. Reports indicated that insurers, maritime service companies and tug operators had also lodged claims against the operator.
The vessel had reportedly been reflagged from the Bahamas to Cameroon in 2026 and had lost classification with Bureau Veritas. Approximately 25 crew members remained aboard while the legal and financial issues were addressed. Reports also raised concerns about delayed wage payments and shortages of fuel and provisions.
