Icon of the Seas passenger medevac was carried out in the early hours of February 2, 2026, after two passengers reportedly developed serious pulmonary symptoms while the ship was navigating Dominican Republic territorial waters near Puerto Plata.
The vessel was en route to St Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands when the medical evacuation was arranged. A Dominican Republic Navy watercraft was dispatched to meet the ship. Both passengers, accompanied by a relative, were transferred from Icon of the Seas and taken to a shore-based medical facility for evaluation and treatment.
