Introduction

A gangway fell into the water as Wonder of the Seas departed CocoCay, Bahamas, on August 1, 2026. The operational incident occurred during retrieval of the gangway after passenger embarkation had been completed.

Details of the Incident

Gangway Retrieval:

  • The gangway slipped during retrieval as Wonder of the Seas slowly moved away from the pier.
  • A forklift on the dock was assisting with the recovery operation when the gangway became unstable and briefly remained suspended.
  • The gangway then dropped into the water alongside the berth.

Passengers and Crew:

  • Passenger embarkation had already been completed when the incident occurred.
  • No passengers or crew members were on the gangway when it fell.
  • No injuries or damage to the cruise ship were reported.

Voyage Outcome:

The incident did not affect the voyage. Wonder of the Seas continued its scheduled three-night Bahamas itinerary, proceeding to Nassau before returning to Miami on August 3, 2026, with no reported delays.
