Introduction

A fire aboard CroisiEurope’s river cruise vessel MS Botticelli prompted the evacuation of passengers and crew while the ship was alongside at the Port of Honfleur, Normandy, France, during the early hours of June 29, 2026. The vessel was operating a Seine River itinerary between Paris and Normandy.

Details of the Fire

Fire and Location:

  • The fire was reported at approximately 03:30 local time while MS Botticelli was alongside at the Port of Honfleur.
  • According to CroisiEurope, the fire originated in the vessel’s galley.
  • The ship was carrying 132 passengers and a crew of 31.

Evacuation and Emergency Response:

  • More than 130 passengers were evacuated, and all passengers and crew were brought ashore safely.
  • No injuries were reported.
  • More than 70 emergency responders, together with municipal authorities, police, firefighters and representatives of the Calvados Prefecture, took part in the overnight response.

Passenger Assistance and Aftermath:

  • Passengers were initially accommodated at Honfleur’s town hall.
  • Temporary hotel accommodation and arrangements for repatriation were then made.
  • CroisiEurope said its emergency procedures were implemented immediately and that affected guests would be returned home as soon as practicable.

Investigation and Vessel Damage:

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the fire. Assessment of damage to MS Botticelli is expected to continue after the site has been secured.
