The rescue operation took place southwest of Bermuda while the ship was en route to its homeport in Port Canaveral, Florida.
Details of the Incident
The sailors were aboard the catamaran Serenity, which began taking on water and issued a distress call to the U.S. Coast Guard. Disney Treasure, being the closest vessel, responded immediately and altered its course to assist. The crew swiftly launched a rescue boat and successfully brought the four sailors onboard from their sinking vessel.
Operational Context
Captain Marco Nogara commended the crew’s professionalism and training, which ensured a swift and successful rescue operation. The incident occurred during Disney Treasure’s maiden transatlantic voyage from Papenburg, Germany, to Port Canaveral. The ship had made a bunkering call in Funchal, Madeira, and is expected to arrive in Port Canaveral on November 12th.
