Introduction

On May 3, 2024, a distressing incident occurred aboard Ambience when a male crew member from India was reported missing and presumed overboard in the Atlantic Ocean. The incident led to an immediate search and rescue effort.

Details of the Incident

The crew member was last accounted for shortly after breakfast, but concerns were raised when he did not report for duty. The ship promptly initiated an onboard search and altered its course to return to the last known position of the missing man, southwest of Port La Coruna and northwest of Vigo. Despite extensive efforts, including assistance requested from the Civil Guard/Spanish Coastguard, the search was eventually called off on May 4th without locating the crew member.

Operational Context

This tragic event unfolded during the final leg of Ambience’s World Voyage 2024, a 30-day segment returning from Cape Town to London-Tilbury. The incident emphasizes the critical nature of safety protocols and emergency response procedures aboard cruise ships.
