Introduction
On June 11, 2024, a female passenger in her late 20s or early 30s was medevaced from Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas during an unscheduled stop in Cozumel, Mexico. Accompanied by a young child and a man presumed to be her husband, the passenger was transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred during Harmony of the Seas’ 7-day “Western Caribbean Cruise” itinerary. While the initial itinerary included a stop in Roatan, Honduras, the ship made an unscheduled stop in Cozumel around 2:00 p.m. local time to facilitate the medevac. Eyewitness reports indicate the passenger was conscious and sitting up on the gurney as she was transferred to a waiting ambulance, suggesting her condition was not critical.
Operational Context
While the ship’s original itinerary included stops in Roatan, Honduras, and Costa Maya, Mexico, satellite AIS data shows that those ports of call were ultimately bypassed, with Harmony of the Seas making two visits to Cozumel instead. According to passenger reports, the ship may have adjusted its speed to compensate for the unscheduled stop and ensure minimal disruption to the remaining itinerary.
