Celebrity Apex passenger medevac was carried out on December 11, 2025, after a 65-year-old man sustained a serious injury while the ship was approximately 24 nautical miles north of Arecibo, Puerto Rico.
Celebrity Apex was travelling from St Kitts back to Florida when the ship requested assistance from the United States Coast Guard. An MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Borinquen met the ship at sea. A rescue swimmer reached the helideck and worked with the ship’s medical team to assess the passenger.
The passenger was hoisted into the helicopter and flown with his wife to San Juan’s Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport. They were then taken by ambulance to Centro Medico Hospital for advanced care. The passenger was reported to have multiple medical conditions requiring treatment ashore.
